13th July 2022

It's been nearly two years since the first cyanotype images by June Hill were presented on the JRHP site.

In the meantime they've caused quite a stir winning numerous accolades and competitions in the Kent photographic scene and in June's home society in Deal.

Her techniques have caught the eye of photographic judges and college art teachers too, as far away as the north west!

After a pause June has created in the last week this wonderful new cyanotype image. We hope you like it too...

WHITE IRIS by June Hill.jpg

12th October 2020

The JRH Photography features a series of competition photographs that have dabbled in the international submissions field over the last few weeks on Photocrowd.

The site provides a platform for topical photographs to be judged by the public through online voting. Whilst this isn't always the most technical format for evaluating skills it has still proven a great morale boost during the tough Covid times.

June has posted four photos and all have made the top 10% of often over thousands of entries. Her Shirley Poppy placed an amazing 11th, Japanese Anenome 13h and the pictures White Iris 121st and Astrantia also making top 10%. You can see the images in the galleries

CYANOTYPE NO 3 by June Hill.jpg

5th August 2020

The JRH Photography is pleased to showcase a selection of June Hill's experiments with cyanotype.

This technique pre dates photography as we know it and was popular in the mid 19th Century. Predominantly used to create what we all recognise as 'blue prints' it was also used for artistic effect.

No camera is required and instead images are created by placing objects on paper and treating them with chemicals.

We hope you agree that the early attempts at this by June are quite amazing works of art which are in the gallery 'other work' section.

The latest JRH Photography image is entitled simply as 'Tulips' and certainly is a seasonal favourite.

These flowers were grown in June Hill's own garden, which provides almost all of her material.

The Tulips are one of her favourites called 'Elegant Lady'.

The photograph was taken using a lightbox at f16 1/13s iso 100.

VIRGINIA CREEPER 1 by June Hill-1.jpg

30th October 2020

The JRH Photography often works with artistic concepts such as use of different backgrounds, as an alternative to the more traditional white background images usually associated with botanical prints and art.

The use of such backgrounds can create a softer overall image and can lend it the look of an old pressing or vintage water-colour.

We're sure JRH fans will love this picture, so let us know if you'd like to see more added to the site or even in the JRHP Store?

This recent composition of a Virginia Creeper can be seen in the galleries in the other work section.

GWM 2014_MG_3755.JPG

24th April 2020

This blast from the past photo is the cover photo from the then competitive Gardeners' World Magazine 2014 Calendar.

The second of June Hill's GWM cover publications it features a rare change from pure botanical images to one of a butterfly seated on a flower probably drawing nectar. Fortunately no pin required unlike some of the insect collections of the 18th and 19th century naturalists.

This was a colourful follow-up to the GWM publishing debut on the cover of the 2012 edition calendar.
